Rosacea Treatment

What is rosacea?

Rosacea is a common skin condition that leads to redness on the cheeks and nose. In some cases, the redness spreads to your chin, forehead, ears, chest, and back. People with rosacea tend to blush and become flushed more easily than others.

Beyond the redness, rosacea symptoms can include:

  • Visible blood vessels
  • Acne breakouts
  • Bumpy, thick skin
  • Red and irritated eyes and eyelids

In mild cases, the symptoms of rosacea come and go, but in severe cases, or when the condition progresses, they can become permanent.

What causes rosacea?

Rosacea’s cause is unknown. In many cases, the skin condition results from a combination of environmental and genetic factors.

In many cases of rosacea, the symptoms flare after exposure to specific triggers, which cause blood to rise to the surface of your skin. Common rosacea triggers include:

  • Alcohol
  • High and low temperatures
  • Sun or wind exposure
  • Spicy foods and drinks
  • Physical exertion
  • Cosmetic ingredients
  • Certain medications

How is rosacea treated?

Rosacea is incurable, but at Aesthetics and Laser Wellness, you can get your symptoms treated. During your initial appointment, Dr. Ghosh examines your skin and determines the best course of treatment for your rosacea.

She may recommend intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy. This innovative treatment uses non-ablative fractional laser light energy to penetrate into the deep layers of your skin, improving your rosacea symptoms.

IPL therapy can reduce the pigment in your skin, decreasing the redness often found on cheeks and noses. These treatments also eliminate spider veins that form on the face, a common symptom of rosacea, and can improve skin texture and tone.

When can you expect a reduction in rosacea symptoms?

After your IPL therapy, Dr. Ghosh advises patients to wear sunscreen for at least two weeks after treatment. You may start to notice differences in your skin in as little as 5-7 days.

Within 1-2 weeks, your rosacea symptoms start to lessen significantly. Your skin may appear smoother, softer, and less red. To maximize your results, Dr. Ghosh may recommend 2-3 treatments over the course of a few months.

If the red, irritated look of rosacea has you reaching for a coverup, find a solution that works at Aesthetics and Laser Wellness. Call today to schedule your appointment with Dr. Ghosh or book immediately online.
